Micro analyses of spots

Micro analyses of spots

Spots and other types of micro samples may be difficult to analyse chemically due to the fact that they are so small and that the amounts also are small. We have solved this problem by micro extraction of small samples for further analyses with e.g. gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

The extraction only uses ca. 100 µL of solution and can be used for analysis of many different types of organic compounds. The analysis technique is complementary to the FTIR micro analyses of spots already used at MoRe. By comparing the spot's chemical composition with that of the reference sample, conclusions can be drawn regarding the origin of the problem as well as a possible solution.
